Photographer Hans-Jürgen Raabe (* 1952 Germany) collects faces. Since 2010 he has worked on his long-term project 990 Faces, aiming to shoot 30 portraits at 33 atmospheric locations worldwide. He not only wants to create a portrait of the people, but also of the place. According to Hans-Jürgen Raabe's conviction both are interwoven inextricably. From his 18 stations he has brought a total of 540 portraits so far.
The color photographs show men, women and children, mostly single people, rarely groups. There are young, old, partly life-marked faces of people with different ethnic and social backgrounds. Many of them look happy, curious or even sceptical, surprised at the camera, a few grim, some seem lost in thought. In their faces completely different reactions to the camera and the photographer can be suspected. Hans-Jürgen Raabe shows his models as they are at the moment of the recording, he neither stages and nor reworks his photographs. Feeling empathic with the place and its people is a precondition of his work for him.

Opening: April 22, 5 pm
