Deniz Eroglu und Henning Fehr / Philipp Rühr
Projections #4

The final screening in the series «Projections» presents films that explore the relation of fiction and documentation, and thus the possibilities of the representation of reality.

Deniz Eroglu deals with migration, identity and the human search for meaning. He explores these themes in an existential as well as humorous way in his films that adapt the style of cinema or television formats and that are often presented in installations. In the style of the Cine?ma Ve?rite? «McMansion Man» (2014) points to one example to contemporary living conditions. But the truth isn‘t to be found in what is concretely seen. The film takes the viewer into the physical and philosophical world of the modern nomad Thomas H who, accompanied by his entourage of dogs, taps into the real estate crisis in Florida.

In their films and installations Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr take the pop and high culture of their lifeworld such as music, architecture and cultural institutions as point of departure for their examinations of the medial display modes and fictions of the present time. Their latest film «Studio Visit» (2017) explores the collaboration of the musicians Moritz von Oswald und Mark Ernestus with the New York Reggae studio Wackies in the 1990s. The story doesn‘t only appear to be twosided, in their film it presents itself as layered, sampled narrative, equivalent to the structure of the music.

«Projections» is a program presenting time-based artworks, organized by the curator Juliane Duft and artist Julian Irlinger as one module of the exhibition «Planet 9». It focuses the turn towards literary and cinematic narrative forms in contemporary art.

The films will be shown in English. Henning Fehr and Philipp Ru?hr will be present.
